The Power of Self-Reflection

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in the same patterns, doing the same things as you have always done them, but expecting different results? You’re not alone. We often get caught in cycles of behavior that don’t serve us. That’s where the practice of intentional self-reflection comes in, and it’s a game-changer.

What is Self-Reflection?

Self-Reflection tends to help you develop your skills rather than just carry on doing things as you have always done them. It is about questioning, in a positive way, what you do and why you do it. This isn’t about harsh criticism; it’s about curious examination. It’s the moment you step back from the daily grind to ask, “Why did I respond that way?” or “What can I learn from this situation?” This simple shift in perspective is the first step towards breaking old loops and building new, healthier ones. Self-reflection during therapy helps you grow, resolve, and heal your sense of self. It does this by helping you allow and understand how the past has defined you, how to move beyond it, and not getting stuck in the loop with personalizing these experiences of the past. It’s the process of deconstructing the old stories to build a more empowered narrative for yourself.

Rate Your “Self”

A powerful way to start this reflective journey is to understand where you stand with different aspects of your sense of self. It’s easy to group these together, but breaking them down helps you identify specific areas for growth.

Where would you rate yourself on the following, on a scale of 0 to 10?

  • Self Respect- Confidence in yourself.
  • Self Belief- The belief that you can do things well.
  • Self Esteem- Confidence in your own worth and abilities.
  • Self-confidence- A feeling of trust in your own abilities, qualities, and judgement.
  • Self Image- How you see your abilities, appearance, and personality.
  • Self Worth- Sense of your own worth and value as a person.

Taking an honest look at these numbers is a form of self-reflection itself. It’s not about judging a low score; it’s about identifying a starting point. This rating helps bring clarity to what you can work on.
